When I take photos of old homes, buildings and barns I
reflect on the people that had the courage and fortitude to move west away from
their family and friends, away from their comfort zone, to start a new life in
a new place.
How frightening and
exhilarating at the same time. Why would
they do this??? Why would they leave
their loved ones for places unknown, places that were at times racked with
danger at every turn of the way.

Did you know that anyplace past the Mississippi River was
considered no longer in America? I have
read many accounts of people returning to the east and thanking God for
returning to American soil.
I have had
thoughts like these
when traveling to places like Israel or Mexico. I thank God for America and for returning safely. I thank God for these adventurers who left quite a legacy behind.
